Resources
The Ann Arbor area, Detroit, and Southeast Michigan are rich with artistic activities. To learn more about the many opportunities to create and engage with the arts in our region, explore the lists below. We know these lists are partial: to add your organization, please email us.
At the University of Michigan
The University of Michigan is becoming known for the richness of its arts programming. The exceptional resources offered by the University Musical Society and the University of Michigan Museum of Art are among the most visible jewels in our arts crown. However, a number of other units are working daily to support students in exercising their creativity. Among them:
The Residential College is one of the longest running undergraduate living-learning communities in the country and engages students in creative exploration of the humanities, the social and natural sciences, intensive foreign language study, and the visual and performing arts.
The Lloyd Hall Scholars Program is a living-learning program focused on writing and the arts.
The MFA Writing Program, graduate program in creative writing, is a two-year program leading to the Master of Fine Arts degree.
The Department of Screen Arts & Cultures gives students a balanced curriculum between screen history and theory plus the study of the current industry's creative work domestically and internationally while the students receive creative hands-on production coursework.
Arts at Michigan supports faculty in integrating arts events into courses, funds student art projects, and keeps students current on all the arts happenings on campus.
And, of course, the School of Music, Theatre & Dance and the School of Art & Design offer many studio courses for non-majors.
